Special Services & Clinics

Child Health & Immunisation

It is important that all pre-school children are fully immunised. Our immunisation clinics are held on Tuesday afternoon 13.00 - 15.30 and Wednesday morning 09.00 - 11.30 for vaccinations only, and by appointment only. Development health checks, weighing and advice are given by the health visitors at the early years centre. Please call 712208 for days and times of the clinics.

Minor Surgery

This is performed under local anaesthetic as arranged with your doctor, usually after morning surgery.

New Patient Medical Checks

All new patients to our practice are required to make arrangements via the receptionists for a new patient medical check-up. This will be undertaken by either the practice nurse, a doctor or our healthcare assistant. You must have a medical before you are accepted onto the doctor's list.

Other Services

The family doctors all provide antenatal care alongside the community midwife. Family planning advice is also offered by all doctors. Other clinics held at the surgery check blood pressure, asthma and diabetic control. We also run more specialised clinics for people suffering from epilepsy, hypothyroidism, cancer, mental health problems, physiotherapy, phlebotomy and counselling. You will be sent an appointment to attend these clinics for a review of your treatment when that becomes due.

Medical examinations for special purposes eg pre-employment, HGV are undertaken during surgery times. We also do occupational health reviews for companies. These are not NHS services so please book early and let the receptionist know what the appointment is for. There will be a charge for special medical examinations. These are listed in reception.

We can give specialist advice regarding travel immunisations or other travel requirements and we are also a recognised yellow fever vaccination centre. Simply book an appointment with our practice nurse. This is best done at around 12 weeks before your departure date as some vaccinations are done over a period of time.

We operate a system whereby we can provide a minor injuries service. If you are unsure whether your injury can be dealt with in the practice or whether you need to go to A&E, please contact us. If the injury is life-threatening, please dial 999.

In the future we hope to become a training practice. Doctors attached will be fully qualified and there to gain experience before becoming full-time general practitioners.

Clinical Trials

The practice is regularly involved in a number of clinical trials in accordance with ABPI (Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry) guidelines. These can be with new uses of established drugs, new drugs or herbal remedies. Our notice board regularly updates what therapy areas are currently on trial. If you are interested in participating please contact your doctor, one of the research nurses or our Clinical Trials Administrator, Marcia on 01827 711568.
