Sober October 2025 Posted or Updated on 12 Oct 2025

Go Sober for October is a fun and exciting 31-day challenge where you can take a break from alcohol all month long! This awesome campaign started in 2013 as part of Macmillan Cancer Support's mission to raise vital funds for those affected by cancer in the UK.

People from every corner of life join in by pledging to go alcohol-free for the month, all while raising money for the important cancer care that Macmillan provides. The best part? You don't have to run a marathon or throw a fancy gala to participate! All you need is a commitment, a JustGiving page, and the desire to enjoy 31 days without alcohol. And if life throws you a little surprise, you can grab a "Golden Ticket" to skip just one night and still keep your streak going—no guilt involved!

Many folks use this month as a great opportunity to reset their health, while others join in to support friends and family affected by cancer or just to take on a meaningful challenge before the holiday season kicks in. You can sign up anytime during October, but the sooner you start, the bigger impact you can have! Let’s make this a fantastic month together!

If you are interested in participating in Sober October as part of a fundraising event, you can sign up on the Macmillan website below.

Go Sober for October is not only about charity; it’s also an opportunity to focus on your health. Even if you don’t plan to raise funds for charity, Sober October is a chance to give your body a break, reset your relationship with alcohol, and show support for those living with cancer. What began as a simple fundraising idea has evolved into a significant health and social movement.

Cutting out alcohol for even one month can lead to:

  • Better, more restful sleep

  • Improved concentration and mood

  • Lower blood pressure and cholesterol

  • Weight loss and reduced sugar intake

  • Healthier skin and digestion

  • Financial savings

For many individuals, this month marks a significant turning point, serving as a catalyst for profound and lasting transformations. It prompts a reduction in alcohol consumption, fostering healthier lifestyle choices, or it instils a deeper sense of self-awareness, encouraging personal reflection and growth. This period often inspires individuals to reassess their habits and priorities, leading to meaningful changes that can enhance their overall well-being.

Whether you want to sign up as part of a fundraising event or if you just want to take a pause and lower your alcohol intake temporarily or for a longer period for your own health you may benefit from the support and resources offered in the Alcohol Advice section of our website below.
