Loneliness Awareness Week Posted or Updated on 8 Jun 2025

Loneliness Awareness Week 2025 is a week-long event hosted by the Marmalade Trust, presenting a valuable opportunity to address the growing concern of loneliness. This year's theme, "Meeting Loneliness Together," emphasises reducing the stigma around this natural human emotion and encourages collective efforts to foster connections.

More information about the Marmalade Trust and Loneliness Week can be found HERE.

Loneliness is a natural emotional response to perceived or actual isolation. It’s a feeling we have when our need for social contact and relationships isn't met. It is often associated with a perceived lack of connection and intimacy.

But loneliness isn't the same as being alone. You may feel content without much contact with other people. Whilst others may find this a lonely experience and need social connections to feel settled and happy.

This year Loneliness week will focus on reducing the stigma surrounding loneliness by creating supportive communities where people can have open, honest conversations.

Why This Matters:

If loneliness is very severe or lasts a long time, it might increase the risk of some physical conditions such as dementia and mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety, low mood, depression, or even premature death.

If you or someone you know suffers from loneliness, please check out the links below for information and support.
